Hero Honda April sales up 4.86%, Bajaj losing ground

The country's largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda today reported 4.86 per cent increase in its vehicle sales during April at 2,62,544 units as against 2,50,366 units in the same month last year, while Bajaj Auto continued its downward spiral in motorcycle sales for the third consecutive month this year, with its April numbers, including exports, declining by 13 per cent compared with the same month last year.
 
Cumulative sales in the first four months of the current calendar year stood at 11,18,528 units, Hero Honda said in a statement.
 
"We have been consistently doing better than industry numbers for the past few months and this momentum has continued in the first month of the new financial year as well. We expect to keep this growth momentum in the coming years as well," Hero Honda Vice-President (marketing and sales) Anil Dua said in the statement.
 
Bajaj Auto's two-wheeler sales registered a dip of 13 per cent at 1,65,692 units as against 1,90,964 units last year, the company said.
 
Three-wheeler sales, however, were up 15 per cent at 24,360 units as against 21,159 units in the corresponding month last year, it added. The company said exports during the month jumped by 64 per cent.
 
This is the third month in succession that Bajaj Auto has witnessed a decline in motorcycle sales. Its February sales dipped by two per cent (including exports) at 1,71,780 units as against 1,75,256 units in the same month a year ago.
 
Motorcycle sales during March this year also declined by 10 per cent at 1,65,524 units (including exports) compared with 1,83,927 units in the same month a year ago.
