The strike at Hero Honda's Gurgaon plant is set to enter the sixth day, with no production, even as talks between the company's management, the striking workers of contractors and the Haryana state labour department continued late into the evening today.

The company said although there could be a notional loss due to the complete stoppage of production for the last five days, its value could not be quantified.

In a media release, the company today said since the plant was running at 90 per cent capacity, the loss of production could be made up only by running the plant to its full capacity, once the strike ended.

"There is still a gap of 700 motorcycles in our daily production. Once the strike is over, we may even try to stretch this to 1,000 units a day, against a current production of 5,800 units," said a company spokesperson.

"There is no immediate affect of this strike on the availability of the company's products at the dealerships. Due to the very nature of the business, there are sufficient stocks in the pipeline and at the dealerships," said the release. The strike would not impact the company's annual profitability or production targets, it added.

Two separate meetings "" first between representatives of the striking workers and the state labour department and second between the company management and the labour department took place at the Gymkana Club in Gurgaon.

However, the talks continued with no sign of a resolution until late in the evening. A union leader from the company's Dharuhera plant was also present at the meeting venue.

Workers and members of the All India Trade Union Congress, who were present at the meeting venue, said there was little hope of the talks ending in any positive outcome during the day.

The failure of the talks to end the strike has pushed it into the sixth day. Hero Honda's Gurgaon plant has been suffering production loss since Monday this week.

"What were discussed during the two meetings held here today have been conveyed to the top management of Hero Honda. They are yet to revert with their response," said a trade union leader.
