Hike Direct, a recently launched update to Hike Messenger that allows users to transfer files without WiFi, data backs or bluetooth, has received encouraging response in its first three weeks, with users transferring a total of 500 million megabytes (MB), or approximately 180 MB of data per day.

Estimates suggest Hike Direct will be saving nearly Rs 2,000 per month per user in data costs. The feature allows mobile phones to connect with one another without internet connection within a radius of 100 metres. Users can chat and share files on Hike Direct at a speed of up to 40 Mbps.

The company said it crossed 70 million users last month, with 20 billion messages being exchanged per month. An average user on Hike is estimated to be spending over 140 minutes per week on the application.

Users can get Hike Direct by upgrading to the Hike version 4.0.6, available on Google Play Store.
