Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), a part of Vedanta Resources, has increased the total capacity of its Chanderiya plant in Rajasthan from 160,000 tonne per annum to 400,000 tonne per annum (TPA). |
The company has already invested over Rs 1,500 crore on the expansion project which also includes a 154 mw captive power plant, apart from the Rampura Agucha mine expansion to 3.8 million TPA of zinc ore. |
The increased capacity makes HZL the sixth largest producer of zinc globally, a media statement issued by the company said. |
Having become the world's largest single stream hydrometallurgical zinc smelter, HZL can now meet India's entire zinc requirements. |
"Hindustan Zinc makes our country self-sufficient in zinc production while saving over $300 million annually in foreign exchange," said Anil Agarwal, chairman, Vedanta Resources. |
HZL is also increasing its silver production three-fold and expanding lead capacity from 35,000 to 85,000 TPA. |
