Hindustan Motors' car plant at Thiruvallur, about 50 kilometers west of Chennai, is set to see more activity on the heels of the launch of a new premium sedan called 'Cedia'. |
'Cedia' is one of the three vehicles from the Mitsubishi portfolio that is rolled out of Hindustan Motors' Thiruvallur plant. The plant has a capacity of about 1,000 vehicles a month and employs around 420 people. |
Other than the Cedia, Sports Utility Vehicle Pajero and a sedan Lancer are rolled out of Thiruvallur. The distribution points for the cars are set to increase as the company plans to increase its dealerships to 52 in 18 months. |
The company's managing director, R Santhanam, said that the Thiruvallur plant has a reputation for turning out quality products, a factor that may help the company bag contract manufacturing orders. |
Hindustan Motors' managing director, R Santhanam, was upbeat about the prospects of 'Cedia' at a press conference held today to mark the car's launch in Chennai. |
The car is priced at an uniform ex-showroom price, Rs 9.87 lakh, across the country. There are two types being sold, the sports model and regular one. An interesting aspect of the pricing is that both models have a uniform price. |
The engine and related components are identical in both models. The difference is limited to the design and the interior. |
