Hitachi India to focus on high-end market

Electronics major Hitachi Home Electronics Asia (HHES) today announced that it would enhance focus on the Indian high-end flat panel display market, as a part of its growth strategy. The company plans to focus on tapping the high-end market and expanding to tier 2 cities.

"We plan to capture 10% of the liquid crystal display (LCD) and 20% of the plasma market with focus on the high-end market", Tarun Jain, country head, HHES, said.

Sharing Hitachi's future plans, Jain said: "As a part of our growth plans, we plan to move to tier 2 cities in a focused manner and undertake a 35% increase in our retail outlets, a 65% increase in the number of Hitachi exclusive galleries - Hitachi Experience Zone, and a 35% expansion in the service network".

"To strengthen our existing service network, we are planning to set up a Hitachi-owned service centre in the coming months," he added.

The company currently has a 4% market share of LCD Television (TV) and 18% share of plasma TV segment in the 3,50,000 units flat panel display market in India.

As a part of its growth plan, Hitachi will launch its Ultra Thin LCD series in India by the first quarter of 2008. The company will also add a 60-inch plasma television to its portfolio in India by end of the year. Hitachi is also working on reducing panel thickness further and by 2009 the company would have a 19mm slim LCD offering.
