Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has witnessed a modest increase in bookings in the wake of the strike in Maruti’s Manesar plant, a company official said on Tuesday.

Replying to a query on how the company was looking to seize the opportunity to increase its market share follwing the strike in Maruti’s Manesar plant, R Sethuraman, Senior VP (finance and corporate affairs) of HMIL said, “Bookings of Hyundai’s cars have increased to some extent.”

“But I am not competing with Maruti in the small car segment. It (EON) is a unique car in the unique segment. It is the high-end of the lower segment. So I am not saying anything about competition,” he added.

According to Sethuraman, HMIL has registered bookings for above 5,000 Eons and plans to sell around 150,000 units per year, nearly one-fourth of its total capacity. The company, the biggest exporter of cars from India to 115 countries, is also looking at exporting the car in countries like South America, South Africa from next year.
