HMSI to invest Rs 360cr to up 2-wheeler manufacturing capacity

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) would invest Rs 360 crore this year for increasing their present two-wheeler manufacturing capacity from 12.5 lakh units to 15 lakh units per annum.

Speaking to mediapersons here today at the launch of the 'New Aviator', HMSI National Sales Head Y S Guleria said they plan to enhance the manufacturing capacity from one lakh scooter units to 1.25 lakh units in this financial year.

Guleria added that the introduction of the New Aviator is a step ahead in the company's commitment to expand the scooter market in India.

The scooter will be available in five colours - Neo Orange Metallic (new), Pearl Heron Blue (new), Rebel Red Metallic, Pearl Black and Monsoon Gray Metallic. It is priced at - Aviator Standard - Rs 43,713 and Aviator Deluxe at Rs 48,713 ex-show room rate.

 

Powered with a 110cc engine, the new model will deliver a power of 8 bhp. The new Aviator will give 15 per cent more mileage than the previous model as it uses cutting-edge technology, he added.

At present, HMSI has a market share of over 50 per cent in the scooter segment, which we target to take to 70 per cent by 2010, Guleria said.
