Honda Car Sales Up 4% Gms Drops 30.6%

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (HSCIL) today reported a 4 per cent increase in sales in September 2001 at 1,149 units, which was also 26 per cent higher compared to 913 units sold during August 2001.

The company had sold 5,001 units during April-September 2001 cumulatively, a company release stated. Sales during September comprises that of Honda's two car models -- City and Accord.

On the other hand, General Motors India (GMI) today reported a 30.6 per cent drop in sales at 800 cars against 1,153 cars sold in the same month last year. The sales were also down by 15.7 per cent compared to 950 cars sold in August 2001.

 

Cumulative sales in the April-September declined by 8.7 per cent at 4,175 cars against 4,575 cars sold in the year-ago period.

GMI said it sold 235 units of premium mid-size Opel Astra and 430 mid-size Opel Corsa cars during September. Sales of the recently launched station wagon Corsa Swing stood at 135 units.
