Having launched its hatchback Brio in the Gujarat market, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) is eyeing a 15 per cent contribution from the state in its overall national sales.

The auto company has already bagged around 500 bookings for the Honda Brio, about 10 per cent of its total bookings so far. "Even while the test drives are yet to begin, we have already received 5000 bookings nationwide for Honda Brio. Of these, about 500 are from Gujarat itself. As for our other models, we expect Gujarat to contribute about 15 per cent for Brio sales," said Anita Sharma, assistant vice president, marketing and communications, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI).

Equipped with a four cylinder 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine, the car delivers maximum output of 88 PS @ 6000 rpm and Torque of 109 Nm (11.2 kg-m) @ 4600 rpm, apart from a fuel economy of 18.4 km/l.

According to Sharma, the Honda Brio is 3610 mm long, 1680 mm wide and 1500 mm tall with a wheelbase at 2345 mm. At such a length and width, Brio adopts the wide form to create openness and comfort within a compact body size, apart from a small turning radius of only 4.5 mtrs.

Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Honda Siel Cars India said, "We have launched the Brio at a competitive price due to our concerted efforts to control costs, maximise production efficiencies and minimise impact of currency fluctuations. We have achieved this through pure localisation of critical components, using local suppliers, local materials, local machines and dies, by localised drawings and our Indian associates."
