Honda Motor Co has said it will recall 129,324 units of its mainstay City and Fit compact car models in Brazil over defective accelerator pedals.
Subject to the recall are those models manufactured in Brazil between May 2008 and October 2010, the automaker said yesterday.
According to Honda, there is a possibility that the accelerator pedal may not come back fully to its original position after being pressed to the floor due to fine dust particles stuck between the pedal and a sensor monitoring the pedal's position, sometimes resulting in difficulty slowing down.
The automaker said it has received one report of an accident stemming from an alleged occurrence of the defect, adding that no one was injured in the case.
Honda said it has not sold the two Brazil-made models in question either in Japan or in the United States.
