Honda sees Guj to drive Aviator's sales

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has come out with Aviator, a 102cc scooter, aimed at urbanites.
 
The company expects the vehicle to register a major chunk of sales in Gujarat, which is its third highest market in terms of sales after Karnataka and Maharashtra.
 
A survey by the company on road conditions in Ahmedabad shows that the vehicle gives a mileage of 50 km per litre. The vehicle would be launched nationally on March 6. The company has set a nationwide sales target of 100,000 units by March 2009, said YS Guleria, senior manager (sales), HMSI.
 
Speaking about the new launch, Masaharu Yamane, adviser (sales and marketing), HMSI, said, "We are targeting businessmen and professionals in the age-group of 30-40 who might be owning a small car but would also like to own a premium scooter."
 
He said the market for automatic scooters was close to one million in the country out of the total two-wheeler market of 8.2 million. The market size for automatic scooters in Gujarat is estimated to be between 7,500 units and 9,000 units per month.
 
This is the fourth scooter brought out by the company after Activa, Dio and Eterno. This March, the company expects to clock sales of around 600,000 scooters. By March 2009, HMSI is looking at selling 1 million units "� 700,000 scooters and 300,000 motorcycles.
 
Though the company exports scooters and motorcycles to South America and European nations, it is yet to decide if it would export Aviator, he added.
