Two-wheeler major Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India's (HMSI) plan to enter the 100-cc segment is in "the final stage" and the bike will soon be unveiled, a company official said here today.
The 100-cc segment is the largest in volume terms in the domestic two-wheeler market. The company, which has presence in the 125-cc segment with the Shine and the Stunner models and in the premium 150-cc segment with the Unicorn will soon launch the 100-cc variant at the forthcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi, HMSI vice-president and operating head-purchase Anupam Mohindroo told reporters here.
"We are going to launch a 100-cc vehicle. It will be a different model," he said, but declined to elaborate.
Stating that the plans for unveiling the vehicle are at the final stage, Mohindroo said, "the company would showcase the motorcycle in the Auto Expo 2010."
He said the company has already invested close to Rs 1,000 crore last fiscal for the overall development and it includes manufacturing the 100-cc motorcycle. Apart from this investment, the company will also invest another Rs 100 crore for ramping up capacity.
The total production has been 10.70 lakh units which will be increased to 12.50 lakh units this fiscal. "We then have planned to take it up to 15.5 lakh units by April 2010-2011," he said.
