HOOQ appoints former Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor as India Head

HOOQ, a joint venture by Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros, delivers over 30,000 hours of Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters to customers

Premium video-on-demand service HOOQ has appointed Salil Kapoor, former COO at Dish TV India Ltd, as the managing director of its India operations. HOOQ, a joint venture by Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros, delivers over 30,000 hours of Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters along with popular regional and local programmes to customers.

User can stream and download shows on their device or platform ofchoice. HOOQ will be leveraging Kapoor's vast experience spanning over 25 years in different industries to position itself as the largest over-the-top video service in the region. Kapoor comes in from Dish TV, where he was the chief operating officer for over seven years, responsible for driving overall growth of the business and played a pivotal role in making Dish TV a clear leader among all DTH players with highest gross subscriber base.
 

Before that he was also associated with LG as the business head for the air conditioning division. Further, he was promoted to become the CMO at LG where he drove international sports partnerships and retail expansion of branded stores. Post LG, he joined Microsoft as the consumer marketing lead and then went on to become the groupproduct head of the home appliances division at Samsung turning around theappliances business there.

His other interests include mentoring start-upswhich also motivated him to join both LG and Dish TV at a very early stage. "It is an exciting opportunity for me to be associated with HOOQ and lead its India operations since this is clearly the future of entertainment. A developing country with an interesting demographic mix, India offers several opportunities for technologies like Cable, DTH and on demand services like HOOQ to co-exist. With growing interest in enjoying an uninterrupted viewing experience andinternet penetration on the upswing, more and more time stressed viewers prefer enjoying their daily dose of entertainment at their convenience.
