The JW Marriott hotel in Chandigarh (which is going to be opened in the next few weeks) signifies the change the hospitality sector in Chandigarh is expected to undergo this decade.

Chandigarh till now had just two five star hotels — GVK property being managed by Taj and Hotel Mountview owned and managed by Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (Citco). The city in the next few years is probably going to have couple of more luxury hotels — Lalit Suri Hospitality Group is coming with a 200 room hotel ‘The Lalit’ Chandigarh , and Hyatt Group is also understood to have been roped in to manage a 200 room property in Chandigarh.

The Rs 300 crore JW Marriott property in Chandigarh is owned by Harpal Singh. He is the owner of Synergy telecommunication which manufactures passive telecom equipments like towers.

Interestingly JW Marriott Chandigarh is the second hotel by the Marriot International group of hotels in India under the brand ‘JW Marriott’, which signifies luxury hotels. The first JW Marriott hotel in India opened in 2002 in Mumbai.

JW Marriott Chandigarh will have 165 rooms that includes 37 executive rooms and 5 suites with prices ranging from Rs 15,000 per night (executive room) to Rs 50,000 per night (Presidential suite).

For most of the hotels in Chandigarh, the majority of the business is driven by meetings and conferences. Keeping this in mind, the property has a 6,500 square feet ball room area where such events can be organised.
