Global information technology giant Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday announced the launch of HP Institute, an academic partnership programme that will equip students with business-ready IT skills which are required by the industry.

As part of the programme, the company will work with Indian schools, colleges and universities to deliver the students with practical experience and job ready skills. The institute will also offer HP Accredited Technical Associate certifications to successful students, company officials said.

The company aims to improve IT skills of over 65,000 graduates in India over the next 5 years.

"There is a pressing need across the IT ecosystem to ensure the entry level hires are better equipped with precise skills and experience, and they need to handle today's technical and business challenges" said Neelam Dhawan, General Manager, Enterprise Group and Country Managing Director for HP India.

A World Bank policy research paper says that about 65% of employers in India are not satisfied with the skill-sets of fresh engineering graduates.

HP started the initiative in the UK in February 2012 and has already presence in 86 countries.
