Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is making a marginal profit on petrol sales after the easing of crude oil prices, but continues to make substantial loss on diesel sales.

"We are making a profit of 88 paise per litre on sale of petrol, but continue to lose Rs 5.90 per litre on diesel," M B Lal, chairman of HPCL, said.

"The softening of global prices has helped us make some money on petrol but the situation continues to be grim on other products," he added.

The company is losing Rs 191 on sale of every 14.2 kg cylinder of LPG, and Rs 19 on sale of every litre of kerosene.
