The state-run Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) wants to attract affluent tourists in larger numbers and is seriously considering opening five star luxurious hotels for the first time in the hill state.
Shimla, Manali, Chail and Kasauli could each get an HPTDC five star property, top state government official sources said.
While the HPTDC has already been given a nod by the state government, the details of building these hotels are likely to be further discussed at a board meeting of the company (HPTDC) soon.
The state government was already in the process of getting private parties to invest in this ambitious expansion programme, sources said.
While Shimla and Manali are some of the most popular resort towns in northern India, Chail and Kasauli also attract tourists in large numbers.
HPTDC currently has over fifty hotel properties across Himachal Pradesh. They are located in some of the best locations. Some of the hotels are even housed in heritage buildings.
But the most luxurious HPTDC hotels currently are only three star, unlike private hotel chains which already have five star hotels at many places in the state.
