The first unit of the 2x600 Mw Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project (RGTPP) at Khedar in district of Haryana will be synchronised with the grid today in a record period of 35 months, thus breaking all previous records in project implementation.
Stating this today, Managing Director of Haryana Power Generation Corporation, Sanjeev Kaushal said that the synchronisation would be done by Chief Minister Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Kaushal said that consistent generation of 600 Mw power would take more than a month as the unit would undergo synchronisation on heavy furnace oil and synchronisation on coal followed by progressive increase of load to 600 Mw.
A Greenfield project of this size takes at least 39 and 42 months for commissioning. However, for the Hisar project an aggressive commissioning schedule of 35 and 38 months has been envisaged, which is the shortest commissioning schedule in the country for such large capacity projects. The total estimated cost of the project was Rs 4,297 crores, he added.
Kaushal said the work for turnkey implementation of this 1,200 Mw power project was awarded during January, 07 to M/s Reliance Energy Ltd. (now Reliance Infra Structure Ltd.). The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 19, 2007. This is the first project in the northern region to be awarded mega project status with attached benefits under the mega project policy of the Centre. This has resulted in reduction of project cost and inter-alia lower cost of generation and tariff.
