Cellular service operator Hutch has opened a high-tech, fully equipped call centre capable of handling over 50,000 calls a day.

The call centre in Ahmedabad is equipped with technology that enables segmentation between premium, post-paid and pre-paid customers. Calls from customers who are associated with the cellular service provider for a long time will get priority.

"The call centre will serve as the backbone of all our customer-related activities," said Sanjoy Mukerji, chief executive officer, Hutch Gujarat.

Mukerji said the call centre has been designed in such a way that the executives can work in an easy and stress-relieving atmosphere. A customer care agent receives about 200 calls a day.

The call centre, inaugurated last week, is spread over an area of 11,000 square feet and has 280 customer care agents working round the clock.

"Our premium customers will get direct access to a more skilled customer care agent," said Mukerji. Mukerji said the call centre will help Hutch respond more quickly to customers' grievances and queries.

"The days of waiting for a few minutes are over. The investment is just of a few crores of rupees, but this is an attempt to keep both, our customers and customer care agents happy," said Mukerji. The centre's hotline number is 9825098250.
