The Institute of International Trade and ITAG Business Solutions Limited, in association with Fapcci, Pharmaexcil, US-based SughreuMion and Nalsar University, will be organising the sixth edition of Global Intellectual Property Convention in Hyderabad from January 16, 2014.

With the theme ‘Optimising the economic value of innovation and IP in global market’, the three-day event is expected to see the participation of 400 delegates, including more than 100 speakers from 20 countries, deliberating on topics including copyrights, trademarks, patents, technology transfers and international filing of patents and trademarks under different conventions of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

“Though there are many research institutions in India, the awareness to protect their technology innovations through the legal system is not prevalent in the country. This event will try to address such issues, and also discuss on the economic impact of IPR (intellectual property rights) in the area of international trade due to counterfeiting and piracy of brand and technology,” DR Agarwal, founder-director of ITAG Business Solutions, told mediapersons here.

Stating that almost 80 per cent of research and innovation takes place within micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, which however was not getting due value because of lack of awareness, Agarwal said the convention will have special sessions covering topics like commercialisation and IP monetisation, and securitisation of different IP assets at the grass-root level.

According to a WIPO 2013 report, patent filings worldwide grew 9.2 per cent in 2012, representing the fastest growth recorded in the past 18 years.
