Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) today strengthened its portfolio in the mid-size car segment with the launch of Verna, which will be pitted against segment leader Honda City and Ford's Fiesta. "Verna is important for Hyundai's India plans as the mid- sized segment has been witnessing exciting times in the last few years," H S Lheen, managing director of HMIL, said. The new model, along with the Accent, would make the company a dominant player in the mid-size sedan market, he added. The Verna will be placed in the upper end of the segment, and priced between Rs 6.21-6.36 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 7.35 lakh for the diesel variant. "The prices are introductory. We would be having a re-look at the prices," Arvind Saxena, vice president (marketing and sales) of HMIL, said. While the petrol variants will be powered by a 1.6 litre engine, the diesel Verna will have a 1.5 litre engine. |
