Hyundai, the country’s second biggest car maker will recall over 7,600 Eon, its hatchback car to inspect and address an issue with clutch cable. Replacements, if needed will be done free of cost.
"Hyundai Motor India will voluntarily recall 7,657 Eon cars in India manufactured between January 1 and 31, 2015. Eon customers of respective period will be notified in a phased manner for inspection of the clutch cable fouling with battery cable and replace the battery cable if found damaged,” the company said in a statement.
India, the fifth largest market for passenger vehicles (cars, vans and utility vehicles), does not have a mandatory vehicle recall policy, yet over 2.2 million vehicles were voluntarily recalled in the last four years. Manufacturers are doing a voluntary recall based on a code introduced by industry’s apex body, Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers, in July 2012.
