The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) expects to place 1,200-1,500 newly-qualified chartered accountants during its Aug-Sept 2013 campus placement programme. The average salary package to be offered by domestic companies this time is expected to be around Rs 8 lakh, it said.

ICAI, which conducts campus placement twice a year in February-March and August-September across 16 centres in India, said 903 candidates had already received placements during the Feb-March drive, and was confident of closing the year with more than 2,000 job offers. When compared with the overall 1,500 offers in 2012, this is 33 per cent more. In Hyderabad, the programme will be held from September 10-13.

The recruiters this year are TCS, L&T, Wipro, ITC, Suzlon Energy, Andhra Bank, Bharat Electricals Ltd, Lanco Infra, Genpact, HP and Barclays among others.

According to it, Bharti Airtel came with the highest offer of Rs 16.55 lakh in the domestic category for five candidates during Feb-March 2013. Sectorally, IT companies accounted for around 20 per cent of the offers in 2012.

“IT and BPO firms have been recruiting a good number of chartered accountants every year, and the IT sector alone accounted for 300 placement offers in 2012,” said Vijay Kumar Gupta, central council member and chairman, Committee for Members in Industry.
