The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) has submitted the final detailed project report (DPR) to the Centre on the electronic manufacturing cluster (EMC) proposed at Infovalley coming up on the city's outskirts.

"We have submitted the DPR for the EMC recently. We have sought Rs 95 crore from the Government of India. The total project cost is pegged at Rs 205 crore," said a government official. The department of electronics and information technology (DeitY), under the Union ministry of communication and information technology, in July last year awarded in-principle approval for the project planned over 215 acres of land.

The proposed greenfield EMC cluster, located at Harapur, Gaudakasipur and Durgapur villages of Khurda district, is expected to house over 100 electronics manufacturing units with an employment potential of 10,000-12,000, which will be a mix of skilled and semi-skilled personnel. The aggregate investment in the cluster is projected at Rs 979 crore, which includes investment by individual units in plant, machinery and park infrastructure.

Under the scheme, the assistance will be provided to a special purpose vehicle (SPV). The SPV will be a legal entity duly registered for this purpose. The SPV may be promoted by private companies, industry associations, financial institutions, research & development (R&D) institutions, state or local governments or their agencies and units within the EMC.

A team of global investors from Silicon Valley has assured the state government an investment of $300 million to promote Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) units at Info Valley. The state IT department is in the process of signing MoU (memorandum of understanding) with California based Plugg Corporation for investment in the EMC.

The state government is providing attractive incentives for the ESDM sector under the recently announced state ICT (information & communication technology) policy-2014.
