Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) is planning to invest Rs 5,000 crore this year in doubling the production capacity of its plant in Gujarat.
"We will be investing a sum of Rs 5,000 crore this year to double the production capacity at our Kalol plant in Gujarat," IFFCO Chairman Surinder Kumar Jakhar told reporters here.
At present, IFFCO's fertiliser-making plant at Kalol has a 1,750 tonne per day capacity.
IFFCO will convert the Kalol facility into a gas-based fertiliser unit and is in talks with GAIL India for providing gas pipeline network to the plant. "We are holding negotiations with GAIL for providing us natural gas pipeline network as we want this new plant to be a gas based plant," he said.
He said that the cooperative fertiliser major had been adding five-lakh-tonne capacity each year for the last few years with an objective to match requirements of the agriculture sector.
