International Gemological Institute (IGI), a global diamond certifying agency has opened a laboratory and training centre in Ahmedabad. The company will certify lose diamonds as well as jewellery from the centre, the only other such centre in Gujarat after Surat.
From its Ahmedabad centre, the company aims to cater to the diamond markets in Saurashtra and Kutch regions of the state. "Ahmedabad is an important destination for us. Regions like Saurashtra and Kutch look up to Ahmedabad for diamond supplies. This will cater to the increasing certification requirement of Ahmedabad market as well as for the other parts of the state," said Tehmasp Printer, managing director, IGI India.
The facility at Ahmedabad will house a training centre, where courses related to rough and polished diamond grading will be conducted. The first batch of the course is expected to start from June 20, 2011 with a student strength of about 10. "There are short-term and long-term courses that includes courses for diamond grading as well as for jewellery designing," Printer informed.
