Global hospitality major InterContinenetal Hotels Group (IHG) plans to tap the South East Asian market by setting up hotels in this region, a top company official today said.
The company currently has 2,100 hotels with a majority of them located in North America and Europe. Besides, it also has about 30 Holiday Inn Express hotels in China.
"We have about 30 Holiday Inn Express hotels in China... Currently we are planning to open hotels in Singapore and in Thailand...," InterContinent Hotels (South West Asia) Chief Operating Officer Chris Moloney said today.
Moloney and company officials were here to announce their association with Duet Hotels India and Mahindra World City to set up their first Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Chennai at an investment of Rs 80 crore.
While Duet Hotels India would own the property, IHG would maintain the hotel, he said.
Currently, IHG operates seven brands, including InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts globally.

Through its subsidiaries and franchises, IHG operates 4,400 hotels and has more than 6.52 lakh guest rooms across 100 counstries worldwide.
IHG had more than 1,200 hotels in the development pipeline and expected to recruit about 1.60 lakh people worldwide over the next few years, officials said.
