More and more Indian companies are adopting the grid technology, according to a study by Oracle India. |
The country's grid index has moved up to 4.4 from 2.9, (on a scale of 0 to 10) posting a 52 per cent growth during the period from April to September 2005, making it the fastest growing grid index across the world, says the study, Oracle Grid Index III. |
The report says the country's adoption of grid technology almost doubled during the last six months, from 1.4 to 2.6. |
Grid computing refers to pooling of IT resources into a single set of shared services for all enterprise computing needs. The Oracle grid index maps the global shift towards grid computing and is measured on three indices: foundation readiness, knowledge and interest and adoption lifecycle. |
According to Sundar Ram, senior director (technology sales), Oracle, Asia Pacific, India progressed in all the grid indices. Adoption lifecycle index rose to 2.6 from 1.4, knowledge and interest index rose to 5.3 from 4.0 and foundation readiness index rose to 5.3 from 3.3. |
India's rise in adoption lifecycle index is significant considering the fact that six months back it was ranked lowest in the APAC (Asia Pacific) region. "This demonstrates an earnest effort to move towards more flexible systems," Sundar Ram said. |
He added that the results of the study shows that Indian companies and organisations are ready to embrace more flexible information systems based on grid computing in an earnest bid to support and manage their speedy growth. |
India's grid adoption index has risen at a higher rate compared to that of the Asia Pacific region, posting 2.6 as against APAC average of 2.0. |
However, in other counts it trailed behind the APAC region. Overall grid index rose to 4.4 as against 4.9 in APAC, knowledge and interest index moved up to 5.3 ( APAC: 5.7) and foundation and readiness index rose to 5.3 (APAC: 7.1). |
