India's Monster Employment Index down 1% from year ago

Decline reflective of cautious approach of Indian employers because of global economic conditions

The Monster Employment Index India exhibits a slight decline, annually. As per Sanjay Modi, managing director of Monster.com (India/ Middle- East/ South East Asia), the decline is reflective of the cautious approach of the Indian employers owing to the global economic conditions.

On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, 14 of 27 industry sectors monitored by the Monster Employment Index registered expansion in online recruitment activity between May 2012 and May 2013. Healthcare, biotechnology and life sciences, pharmaceuticals sectors (up 21%) followed by NGO/social services sector (up 17%) exhibited the highest annual growth among sectors.

Real Estate showed 15% growth in online recruitment activity between May 2012 and May 2013. Oil and gas, petroleum and power
 
showed the steepest annual decline of 9%.

Online demand improved in six of 13 occupational groups monitored by the Monster Employment Index between May 2012 and May 2013.Customer Service (up 30%) followed by Healthcare (up 24%) charted the most substantial annual gains amongst the occupational groups. Senior management (down 51%) exhibited the steepest annual decline among occupation groups.

Online recruitment activity was up on the year in eight of 13 locations monitored by the index. Kolkata (up 13%) followed by Chandigarh (up 11%) led all cities in annual growth. Among major metro-areas. Kolkata (up 13%) followed by Delhi-NCR (up 6%) registered the highest annual growth.

The Monster Employment Index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings across India.
