Indian BPO to create 800 jobs in N Ireland

The company announced that around 300 of the new jobs will be in Londonderry where the company already employs 350.

The remaining 500 jobs will be based in he company's European Centre of Excellence, which is being established in the region.

The company, which set up office in the region in 2006, employs 550 people in Belfast.

 

The investment by the company is being backed by 6.7 million pounds grant aid from Invest Northern Ireland, a regional economic development agency.

The grant and the expansion were finalised during a recent trade visit to India by the Enterprise, Trade and Investment minister Nigel Dodds. "This significant reinvestment by Firstsource Solutions clearly reflects the company's confidence in the region. The local economy will not only benefit from an additional 10 million pounds in salaries annually but also from company's commitment to training and the introduction of best-practice skills in the area of customer service," Dodds said.

Firstsource has 34 call centres worldwide and employs more than 17,000 people across four continents. It specialises in providing outsourced services including contact centre, back-office processing and  debt-collection services.

Some industries in Keonjhar district alleged that bad roads were severly affecting their progress.

"Some industries located in Joda-Badbil area in Keonjhar district were unable to procure raw materials due to bad road condition," the sources said.

Besides, some other industries also expressed concern over probelms in getting requisite amount of water for industrial use.

Many of them were facing opposition from local people when they try to draw water from rivers and reservoirs.

Sources said the government had also decided to organise such meeting with industries once in four months in order to expedite industrialisation process in the state.

When contacted, Home Secretary T K Mishra told PTI that the government was planning at least 100 additional police stations which would be established in industrial areas and places infested by maoists.
