An IndiGo flight, from Mumbai to Delhi with 147 passengers, one infant and six crew members on board, was put on high alert on Wednesday after dense smoke emerged from its left brake assembly unit soon after it landed at Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi. The pilot initiated emergency measures and evacuated all passengers safely.

IndiGo Airlines said the flight, 6E-176, made a normal landing this afternoon at Delhi. The captain was alerted by the air traffic control. Hydraulic oil had leaked into the unit causing smoke to emerge out of the unit.

The captain ordered the crew to evacuate all passengers. The evacuation was done on the taxiway after safely landing the aircraft in about 75 seconds

"There was no fire and this was not an emergency or priority landing", the airline stated.

IndiGo has initiated an enquiry into the incident.

Some passengers who suffered minor injuries during the evacuation were given medical attention and taken care of by the airline's airport team as well as five members of the family assistance and care team.
