Industrial development boosts hotel business in Kolhapur

Hoteliers to promote Kolhapur tourism

The Hotel Owners Association of Kolhapur is coming up with an agenda to promote Kolhapur as a tourist destination. The association said that recent industrial development has helped to grow the hotel business in the city. The occupancy has been increased by 30 per cent in the last two years.

Kagal MIDC, which is developed over more than 1000 hectares at an investment of Rs 5000 boosted the hospitality business. Industries like Reliance, Raymonds, Kirloskar Oil Engines and Vardhman Polytex are setting up their units near Kolhapur.

There are few star rated hotels are coming up in the city which will have additional 400 rooms. The association has planned packages to attract the tourists from all over India. There are 150 hotels and restaurants in the city which occupies 1000 rooms.

 

Anand Mane, president, The Hotel Owners Association and Kolhapur Tourism said, “The association is planning Konkan-Kolhapur circuit to promote the tourism on the western ghats. The talks are on with various resort and hotel owners in the Konkan region. Business groups like D Y Patil, R M Mohite and Sanjay Ghodawat are planning to foray into hospitality business. There is a lot of scope for tourism in Kolhapur. We are planning to promote some traditional sports like buffalo race, agro tourism and local cousin. Kolhapur has some beautiful palaces, film studios and sights to visit.”

Siddhatha Latkar, chairman said, “Kolhapur is a holiday destination and an equally attractive alternative to Mahabalshwar, Panchgani and Matheran as it has many more to offer than just a hill station and it is also a budget friendly tourist centre. Kolhapur has a pleasant climate all round the year. It is an ideal stopover place even for the tourists visiting Goa or Konkan by road from Mumbai and Pune.”

Also, The Gateway Hotel, a hospitality brand of the Tata Group-promoted Indian Hotels Company (IHC), has a plan to develop a property in Kolhapur in Maharashtra-The Gateway Hotel Kolhapur.

The Gateway Hotel, in association with Aryan Hospitality, a subsidiary of IRB Infrastructure Developers, would develop a 100-room property in Kolhapur.
