Industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) today demanded setting up of food parks in Uttar Pradesh for adding to farm income and value to agricultural produce.
The chamber said Uttar Pradesh was attractive destination for food parks with huge potential of food processing and exports due to high agri production in both food grains and horticulture.
“UP has vast internal market for food and grocery accounts 77 per cent of total sales,” PHDCCI Resident Director Brig Amitabha said addressing a meet on ‘Establishment of Food Parks in UP’.
The meet was on the prospect of food parks in Uttar Pradesh, basic requirements to establish them and to promote entrepreneurs and food processors.
He said agro-food sector in India had great potential due to changing demographics, rising population and rapid urbanisation, which would further increase the demand for value-added food products.
Subject experts suggested Mega Food Park could be established for any sector such as fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat/poultry, wine or it could also combine sectors.
It would provide backward and forward linkages covering the entire food processing value chain.
