The government move to tighten laws on land acquisition, mining and corporate affairs has left the industry leaders unhappy.

The disappointment was conveyed to the government in a meeting of the joint task force, chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma today.

The India Inc leaders, pointed out that with introduction of new laws, India would slip in the index for ease of doing business.

"When we look holistically, the Company Law Bill that's coming, the Land Acquisition Bill, the Mining Development Bill and the new tax code...All of them are not working together to create an environment where it is easy to do business in India," Venu Srinivasan of the TVS group told reporters after the meeting.

Rajan Mittal of the Bharti Group said, the manufacturing industry is under quite a stress. "The industry I have to say is quite disappointed...Environment, land and labour issues need to be sorted out."

Harsh Pati Singhania of JK Paper and former Ficci President said, it takes a lot of time in getting clearances related to environment laws and allocation of resources like coal.

They also expressed disappointment that the government could not come up with a new manufacturing policy in the backdrop of inter-ministerial differences.

The Group of Ministers, headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, has been formed to resolve differences between ministries of environment and labour on the one hand and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, on the other.
