Infibeam launches .OOO domain globally

To file DRHP for Rs 500 crore IPO in two months

BS Reporter Ahmedabad
Even as it launched the new generic top level domain .OOO (dot-triple-’O’) globally, becoming the first Indian Internet Registry to do so, Ahmedabad-based Infibeam is planning to file the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) for its upcoming Rs 500 crore IPO in two months.

Backed by growth in its flagship e-commerce portal, along with BuildaBazaar and now .OOO, Infibeam is planning to expedite the IPO process.  However, talking about the IPO, Vishal Mehta, founder and CEO, Infibeam said that the company will be planning few more initiatives before filing the DRHP.  By next fiscal, the company is planning to raise roughly Rs 500 crore from the IPO.

The company recently became the country’s first generic top level domain (GTLD) Registry after bagging necessary clearances and license from The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Infibeam has entered into Registry Registrar Agreement (RRA’s) with leading global domain Registrars for making available .OOO to the customers worldwide. All the Registrar partners are ICANN accredited with over 15 years of experience in distribution and management of domain names. .OOO will be wholesaled to the Registrars and they will further retail to the end user.

The new domain will be marketed through several top global domain Registrars such as Bigrock (India), Superregistry (Canada), Key-System (Germany), 101domains (USA), EuroDNS (Luxembourg), Goodluck Domains (USA), Ascio Technologies (Denmark), Comlaude (London),Mailclub (France), Net Technologies (China), IP Mirror (Singapore), Alantron Bilisim (Turkey) and Reseller Club (India).

“When a city gets crowded, you go and build a new city. The new top level domain ‘.ooo’ will bring in more opportunities for users not only in terms of getting their own domain names but also to plan and grow their business in the current Internet era. Today, it is very difficult to get the desired domain in ‘.com’,” said Mehta.

Infibeam is aiming at 1-2 million .ooo domains to be registered in 12-18 months globally. Of these, about 5-10 per cent is expected to come from India.  According to Mehta, apart from domain registration, Infibeam as a Registry will also offer value added services such as payment gateway and website development.

“The launch of dot-triple-o (.OOO) will allow businesses to maximise the power of Internet and build their own digital identity. With growing access to Internet on mobile phones consumers will prefer brands with domain extension of .OOO which is easy and convenient to type on keypad. We are also happy to partner with world’s best and established Registrar partners, who will make available .OOO to the global community. I welcome business-owner, brands and aspiring entrepreneurs to register their domain identity with extension .OOO and reach-out to global community,” Mehta added.

Offering search engine friendliness and mobile friendliness, the .OOO domain will be subscription based. “Our revenue model will be subscription based retailing of domains through our Registrar partners wherein the average annual fee would range between Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 per annum,” said Mehta.
