IT major Infosys has for the fourth year running topped AC Nielsen's corporate reputation index, ahead of other formidable giants like TCS, Tata Steel and Reliance Industries. According to AC Nielsen's Corporate Image Monitor, 2006, Infosys topped the 10 most favourable companies, which also featured two IT giants - Wipro and TCS. "The IT sector has gained momentum in India for some years now and is very well perceived by Indians. What is interesting this year is how auto and steel companies have started to make their presence felt in the index," Prasenjit Das, associate director, ACNielsen India, said. As per the report, which measured image of a corporate in the mind of various stakeholders of business for top 20 corporates of India chosen in terms of market capitalisation, sales and assets, Infosys was followed by Wipro and Bajaj Auto in the second and third places respectively. FMCG major Hindustan Lever (HLL) was in the fourth place, followed by TCS, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Maruti Udyog and Reliance Communications. Tata Steel, Infosys and Wipro were rated as the three most socially-responsible corporations. Tata Steel held a much higher rank in CSR activities as compared to its overall standings in terms of corporate image. The companies which have shown sharp improvement this year include Bajaj Auto, which rose to third position from the ninth position last year, HLL, which has risen from the 10th position last year, and Tata Steel which went from the 14th position to the 7th position this year. |
