Intel optimising content for tablets, smart phones

Company has been taking strides in developing content for personal computers and e-literacy campaigns

Technology major Intel is optimising its digital content for tablets and smart phones given the growing popularity of these personal devices.

Intel, which works closely with governments, has been taking strides in developing content for the personal computers (PC) and e-literacy campaigns.

Given the fast adoption of tablets and smart phones, Intel is optimising the new content for these devices, Intel Director (Consumption Sales, Intel South Asia) Anand Ramamoorthy told Business Standard.

“In fact, the new content is more or less platform neutral and integrates nicely with the different platforms,” he added.

Intel content is also bundled in the free laptop scheme of the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh.

“The education content bundled with the PCs is aimed at first time users, who are the main beneficiaries of the laptop distribution scheme in various states,” he underlined.

Meanwhile, Intel plans to extend its digital literacy efforts in UP. It already works with the Centre on National Digital Literacy Mission, which aims at making at least one person digitally literate in every household by 2020.

“UP is an important and a model state for us. If an idea or product works in UP, then it could definitely work in other parts of the country as well,” Ramamoorthy said.

With close to 10% PC penetration, India lags even smaller countries like Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

“The low penetration is due to little awareness about PC and its different productive uses,” he noted.

On July 2013, Intel had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UP government to e-train government school teachers.

The company claims to have trained almost 1.7 million teachers across India under its Intel@Teach programme.
