More people in the country are using internet to firm up their travel plans and most of the trips are planned in advance, says a report.

Experian Marketing Services, a digital marketing firm, said that travel decisions are influenced by word of mouth and references rather than just advertisements.

"The current traveller is more than ever reading and sharing travel-related content online, which has been created and posted by peers rather than by travel service providers," the report said.

The findings are based on Experian Hitwise -- an online competitive intelligence service -- that reports on over 200,000 sites and over 6 million search terms.

"Increasing number of travellers use the Internet for travel planning. Indeed, searching for travel-related information is one of the most popular online activities," it noted.

As per the report, a typical Indian traveller does not like to make spontaneous decisions and plans trip in advance.

"An evolved traveller starts planning the trip three months in advance by visiting travel related blogs, forums, travel related video's/photographs, travel review sites," it added.
