Ipca Labs to make drug for Ranbaxy arm

Ohm Laboratories Inc (Ohm), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy, has received approval from the US Food and Drugs Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Metformin Hydrochloride USP tablets 500mg, 850mg and 1000mg.

According to a release issued by IPCA Labs to the BSE today, the company will manufacture this formulation utilising its facilities in India. "The company is setting up a new formulations manufacturing facility meeting US regulatory requirements at an SEZ in Indore. The company is already holding the US DMF of Metformin HCL," the release added.

Ipca Laboratories had earlier announced a strategic alliance with Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc (Ranbaxy) based in Jacksonville, Florida (USA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy Laboratories.

This is the fifth such product approval received under the alliance from USFDA, the release added.
