Criminal cases have been registered under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against seven officials, including RIL-Nagothane's President S R Yadwadkar, Nogothane police said.
Others booked include vice-president (technical), plant manager, plant superviser, safety superviser, and owner and supervisor of CN Enterprises, the company engaged by IPCL for the maintenance work, they said.
The accident occurred yesterday at 1120 am yesterday when the hydrocarbon and welding gas came into contact in the plant which was under maintenance.
A fire broke at 11.20 am in a section of the LLDPE plant's unit number two which sparked-off the explosion.
