Harinarayan told Business Standard that his agenda "fundamentally" was to protect the interests of consumers and the industry. He envisaged development of new products in the areas of health insurance and agriculture.
A 1970 batch Andhra cadre IAS officer, Harinarayan is the third person to head Irda after its inception in 1999. He had served as the chief secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh, prior to this appointment.
