IT companies shows signs of recruitments

The ongoing campus recruitment at Mysore’s National Institute of Engineering (NIE), if taken as a cue, indicates that IT companies are perhaps beginning to hire again.

NIE has recorded an all-time high placement during the recent campus recruitment season 2011-12. The recruitment is likely to reach 100 per cent as it is still in progress.

“The recruitment is still in progress and going by the response of the companies, the campus recruitment during this season is likely to reach 100 per cent,” said NIE Principal G L Shekar, who has every reason to be happy over the performance of his students.

 

Of the 70 companies that have come for recruitment, 45 are IT companies. The remaining 25 companies are from the core engineering sector. So far, they have recruited 431 engineering students, exceeding the figures of last year. This works out to 94 per cent placement of the eligible students. Those who have secured placement will join their respective companies in August 2012.

The major companies that have visited NIE include Infosys Technologies Ltd, IBM India Ltd, Microsoft-GTSC, Yahoo India, Hewlett-Packard Ltd, Delphi, National Instruments, Sony India Ltd, Samsung, Ernst & Young, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, LG Electronics India Ltd, Mercedes Benz R & D Pvt Ltd, TVS Motor Company Ltd among others.

Going by the branch-wise recruitment, Shekar said computer science and engineering (CS&E) lead with 98 per cent students finding favour by the placement companies, followed by industrial production (IP) 96 per cent.

While in electronics & communications the placement was 95 per cent, electrical and electronics and civil engineering were on a par at 93 per cent.

Mechanical engineering followed, with 90 per cent and information science & engineering (IS&E) 89 per cent and post-graduate 32 per cent, the principal said.

During the academic year 2011-12, 423 students were placed through campus recruitment. Some 73 companies, including 46 IT companies and 27 non-IT companies took part in the recruitment drive.

Besides core engineering companies, IT giants like Infosys, Wipro IBM, Akamai, Igate Patni Computers, ITC Infotech, Oracle for Computer Science, Information Science and also companies such as Cisco, HP, SAP Labs, Amazon, Google India, Samsung, Sony India, Tally Solution and Microsoft recruited candidates.
