ITC set to become carbon-positive company

ITC Limited, which has become a water positive company for the third successive year, is on the verge of becoming a carbon-positive company.
 
The tobacco major is also moving ahead to become a zero-solid disposal company, according to the company's chairman Y C Deveshwar.
 
Deveshwar, who was inducted into the 'Hall of Pride' by the Indian Science Congress here on Tuesday, said that ITC was creating more fresh water than the quantum of water it was consuming and thus became a water positive company.
 
Similarly, it was likely reduce its carbon emission levels drastically and thus contribute for maintaining better climate.
 
Stating that ITC would be investing over $1 billion in the next 7 to 8 years on creating business models like e-chaupals to link weaker sections of the society to value chain, Deveshwar said that the company's strategy was to create a two-way fulfilment channel based on digital, physical and human infrastructure.
