"ITC has won the top honours at the TERI Corporate Award for Social Responsibility 2008 in recognition of its exemplary initiatives in implementing integrated watershed development programmes across 7 states, providing precious water resources for agriculture, rural communities and livestock," the company said in a statement.
The watershed projects covered over 35,000 hectares with 2,000 water-harvesting structures in moisture-stressed areas, the company said.
"ITC also entered into a partnership with NABARD in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to work on soil and moisture conservation on 17,500 hectares under a five-year programme," it added.
Earlier, ITC had signed an agreement with the Rajasthan government for watershed development in Bhilwara district under a public-private partnership programme covering 5,000 hectares of land.
