Commenting on the collapse of Vivekananda Flyover in Kolkata, IVRCL, the contractor of the project, in a press release, said that all necessary process and quality steps were taken as per standard operating procedure and after obtaining all clearances regarding the construction of the flyover.

"IVRCL grieves the loss of precious lives and injuries to people and will cooperate with the authorities in investigating the accident," the company said in a release sent to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Stating that the details were awaited to investigate the cause of the accident, the company, however, maintained that the construction was being handled as per the standard operating procedures. It also added that the design of the flyover was made by a reputed consultant from Kolkata and the project manager and engineers deployed at this site were highly experienced in constructing large and complex projects.
 

"Such an incident has occurred for the first time in the company's history. In the Vivekananda Flyover project 59 sections with a total length of about 0.9 km have been completed successfully so far. The collapsed section is the 60th," it said.
