Jain Irrigation System today announced the opening of its second manufacturing plant in Gujarat at Bhavnagar with an investment of Rs 100 crore in a phased manner.
"We shall invest Rs 100 crore in a phased manner, of which Rs 25 crore has been invested in the first phase," Jain Irrigation System Director Marketing, Atul Jain said in a statement.
The new unit will manufacture micro-irrigation system components like drip, sprinkler and pipes, he said.
The company already has one unit in Gujarat located at Baroda. The opening of the Bhavnagar unit would take the company's total manufacturing units to 22, he added.
Unveiling the new plant, Gujarat Energy minister Saurabhbhai Patel said, "While electrical power availability is not a constraint, water management is a constraint and hence more and more farmers should adopt micro-irrigation."
The Mumbai head-quartered company had reported a 24.5% jump in its net profit at Rs 71.47 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010.
