Agriculture conglomerate Jain Irrigation Systems today said its net profit stood at Rs 55.59 crore for the first quarter ended June 2009, while it had a net profit of Rs 29.56 crore in the same period last year.
"The company has from the current year provided tax on quarterly basis as against the earlier practice of providing the same at the year end, hence the results are not strictly comparable," Jain Irrigation Systems said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Total income rose to Rs 573.03 crore in the latest quarter, against Rs 475.94 crore in the same quarter previous quarter, the filing added.
Shares of Jain Irrigation Systems were trading at Rs 698 on the BSE, up 1.57 per cent from previous close.
