Jaiprakash Associates (JAL) today said it has entered into an agreement with Dighi Port to set up a 3 million tonne per annum cement grinding plant at Kutch at an investment of around Rs 600 crore.
"JAL has entered into an agreement with Dighi Port for setting up a port-based, three million tonnes per annum cement grinding plant, a coal-based captive power plant and a water desalination plant at Dighi Port at an investment of around Rs 600 crore," Jaiprakash Associates Executive Chairman Manoj Gaur said in a release.
JAL, however, did not give the break-up of stakes for the proposed venture.
The plant, to be commissioned in three years, would be developed on 40 acres of land, which would be provided by Dighi Port on lease for 40 years. Dighi Port would provide its port facilities for incoming and outgoing bulk cargo for the plant.
Apart from catering to Maharahstra and Gujarat markets, cement from the plant would also be docked in export markets, Gaur said.
Dighi Port, promoted by Mumbai-based entrepreneur Vijay Kalantri, is located on the western coast for bulk and container handling. The channel shall have 14 metres of draft.
Jaiprakash Associates has already commissioned an integrated cement plant in Kutch district and a fly ash based cement grinding unit. The proposed unit would take its capacity cement making capacity to over five million tonnes per annum in Gujarat.
