The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has constituted a committee to identify ways to tackle the scarcity of imported coal that has hit the production at Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL).

SAIL requires imported high quality coal for steel plants. Half the coal used by BSL was imported. Bhilai Steel Plant and Rourkela Steel Plant consumed imported coal to the extent of 80 per cent.

Most of the coal was imported from Australia. Coal availability had declined and prices had shot up. SAIL's production may be hit on this account.
